Malus 'Prairifire'
Especially good foliage retention during summer. Blooms later than most crabs. Fruit does not drop. Bark glossy dark red with numerous prominent lenticels. Disease resistant. 1996 Iowa Tree of the year.
Crabs adapt to almost any soil type but it must be well drained and able to retain sufficient nutrients and moisture. Plant in full sun for best flower and fruit production but will tolerate light shade. Prune in early June.
